These famous words from Watergate days are just as important today. One of the things we must all do to deal with the current economy is to work smarter and save money where ever we can.

If you use the mail to acquire new customers or for maintaining a relationship with those you already have, there is typically much that you can do to improve your profitability.

Here are 10 ideas.

  • Use modeling to help mail to the right prospects
  • Use all the USPS list cleaning tools to make sure your mail gets delivered
  • Design your pieces to mail at the best postage rates and be sure they are automation compatible.
  • Use less expensive paper.
  • Use lighter paper.
  • Print near your lettershop.
  • Gang run similar items - save on make readies.
  • Print the correct number of pieces - too many is a waste and too few can really be expensive.
  • Work with the right printer for each job.
  • Determine the rates for any expenses that might arise before you start the job.
