Scholarship
Program
PURPOSE
The National Business Association (NBA) Scholarship Program was established
to achieve a number of highly desirable objectives. First, it is viewed
as a major benefit for being a member of the NBA. Second, it recognizes
and aides deserving students who are eligible for the awards based on
their parents' membership in the NBA. Third, the awards assist the winners
and their parents with college expenses.
The philosophy of the NBA Scholarship Program differs
from traditional scholarship programs that reward outstanding academic
achievement. NBA Scholarships are awarded to deserving students whose
academic credentials fall within an average to above-average range. In
general, average and above-average credentials are, for high school seniors,
those that rank in the top third of the senior class but not in the top
10 percent. Standardized test scores should range, for the ACT Composite,
from 18 to 26, or for the SAT, combined Verbal and Math scores should
range from 850 to 1190. Students enrolled in college should present college
GPAs that range from 2.50 to 3.50 on a 4.00 scale in addition to the proper
high school credentials.
ELIGIBILITY
Those eligible to apply for the NBA scholarships are high school seniors,
college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are dependent sons and daughters
of NBA dues-paying Members.
* NOTE: The parents of the applicants must still be NBA
Members at the time the winners are selected in April.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
At least ten $1,500 scholarships will be awarded each year. These are
one-year awards and are not based on financial need. There is a new competition
for these awards each year. Winning one year does not guarantee a recipient
will win the following year.
The scholarship will be applied to educational expenses
at accredited, non-profit colleges, universities or vocational/technical
schools in the United States. A student may transfer colleges and retain
the award.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Prior to February 1 of each year, the NBA will announce the beginning
of the scholarship competition. Application packets containing the application
form and all the necessary information about the scholarship program and
the application procedure are distributed to those who request them. To
request an application packet, call the NBA at 1-800-456-0440, or to request
your application packet through this website, click

SELECTION OF WINNERS
An independent selection committee made up of educators will select the
winners during the month of April. In selecting the winners, the committe
evaluates the applicants' academic records, test scores, extracurricular
activities and recommendations. The committee will not discriminate on
the basis of sex, race, religion or natural origin. Applications are ranked
largely on the basis of qualifications described above. All applicants
will be notified of the results of the competition by May 15.
RESPONSIBILITY OF RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients must enroll as full-time students in the fall of
the year in which the scholarships are awarded and continue in the school
for the entire academic year without interruption barring illness, emergency
or military service.
Scholarship recipients are responsible for making certain
that their scholarship checks are delivered to their colleges and universities.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
Scholarship payments are made in the following way: On or about August
1, scholarship recipients are sent checks for the fall academic term.
Checks are made payable to the colleges. For colleges on the semester
system, the checks are for one half of the award. For colleges on the
quarter system, the checks are for one third of the award.
The second and third checks for colleges on the quarter
system are sent on or about November 1 and February 1. For those on the
semester system, the second checks are mailed on or about December 1.
PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION
To assure impartiality in the selection of the winners, and to maintain
a high level of professionalism in dealing with students, parents, high
schools, and colleges, the NBA Scholarship Program is administered by
Scholarship Program Administrators, Inc., a firm that specializes in the
administration of sponsored scholarship programs.
